Day 1: Iquitos - Muyuna Lodge
Morning arrival in Iquitos by plane. Reception and after a brief city-tour transfer to the dock and transfer by speed boat down the Amazon. After a three hour journey arrival to the lodge; you will be given a notebook to register the animals you see during your visit. Lunch at the lodge.
Depending of water level, we use canoes or walk to Pungal, an area of strangler figs and a favourite for hoatzin birds. We watch the sunset at the Sapote Lake. At night, look for black and white caimans (jungle alligators), under the stars of the southern hemisphere.
Day 2: Muyuna Lodge
Travel by canoe to Juanachi Lake, where we appreciate the abundance of the local fauna and flora. We walk or paddle, depending on water level, looking for birds, such as parrots, macaws, toucans, egrets, hawks, ducks, etc. We may also see sloths and monkeys, including the night, squirrel and dusky titi. After lunch, we hike and look at the variety of local flora. We may see the pygmy marmoset, the smallest monkey in the world, and if we are lucky, howler monkeys, whose roar can be heard miles away.
Day 3: Muyuna Lodge – Iquitos
Early morning bird watching trip. We easily spot parrots, macaws, toucans, egrets, hawks, ducks, etc. The check list will help you to identify the different species you see. Later, depending on water level, we are taken by motorboat to the Amazon River or to lakes, to experience the most magical moment of the trip: seeing the pink Amazon River dolphins playing around the boat. We visit the Purura Lake, where we find different types of fish, such as piranhas, silver hatched fish, etc. After lunch, our jungle experience comes to an end, as we sail back to Iquitos and are taken to the Airport.
